I’ve been in India for just over a week now and it has made the most wonderful impression on me. It took two overnight plane rides to get here. We stepped out of the Delhi airport at 3 am into a whole different world, it was hot and hard to breath and there was more traffic at the airport in the middle of the night than I have ever seen in Vermont, everything was brand new and interesting. Instead of going straight to our host families the 5 of us YES Abroad kids went to a resort for another orientation, this time with kids coming to India from all around the world. The resort was beautiful but not so spotless and new like some place in the U.S, there were big marble staircases, actual keys for the rooms, and peacocks roaming around outside. The AFS staff and volunteers gave us a traditional welcoming on the first day including a tikka on our foreheads, garlands made from real flowers and a spoonful of curd, I loved it. Everyone I have met so far has been so warm and welcoming.
